I'm just replacing the head gasket and one of the nuts has got stuck on one of the rocker studs. I ordered a new stud and asked if they would include a new nut but no luck

To get the engine back together where could i borrow a nut from on the car until i can get to my spare engines in a few weeks time?

I imagine these nuts are common throughout a Mini but i can't think off hand where to 'pinch' one from

this might not be the right one but when you look at minispares to buy a nut, it lists out where they are on the car:

for example, see right side

What do you mean by stuck on one of the studs? can't you remove the nut?

Rear heater bracket? - nope 1/4UNF

Was trying to think of a nut 'n bolt combo you could swap for metric, front subframe mountings?

Can’t think of anywhere that uses that nut. Other than the brake/clutch pivot shaft. Normally a nylock.

How about the battery strap? That's one you could manage without at a push, that's also easy to get at. As long as you don't leave the strap swinging to short the battery posts, a cable tie could sort that.

Hi

If you have got a new stud can you not put the old one in a vice heat the stuck on nut and hopefully remove it that way.

My coil is held on by a couple of 5/16" nuts and bolts.  One would probably be enough for 'just running round town' .

I don't know how it happened but the nut is threaded on the stud and the more I try and remove it the more stuck it gets. So far as the nut has come off I can see the threads below it are buggered

I had to go out so called in at a Land Rover specialist and got a nut from them

So hopefully get the Mini back together later on

With a big 3/8th" head stud through the rocker pedestal, is it vital for the locating stud to also be bolting it down ?

Most of the locating stud's job, is to keep the rocker gear attached to the head when the head is removed.

I can think of a few places that has that nut, but not sure if I'd pinch from any of them!

Master clyinders

Engine mounts to subframe

Gear selector to tunnel (on rod change)

Exhaust mounts

Engine steady (bulkhead end)

Steering column bracket

Thermostat

Alternator mounts
