Hi Everyone, I,m installing a wooden dash to my 91 Rover mini (2 clock Nippon Seiki set up)I,m intending to fit Smiths analogue gauges to give it more of a classic look but keeping the original two clocks for speedo, oil and ignition warning lights,My question is what exactly is required for changing over to Smiths fuel and temp gauges? Any advice appreciated.

As with any gauge swap you need to ensure that you have the correct senders - it's unlikely that the current senders will be accurate if you don't change them and also unlikely any Smiths analogue gauges can be calibrated to your existing senders (but possible!?). Therefore make sure you get gauges with the matching senders. Wiring is straight forward - you will need an ignition feed and an earth and also a light on feed if they have bulbs fitted - these should be available from the current gauges. Suspect the most challenging will be the fuel gauge if you need to swap out the sender in the tank.

The fuel and temp ran through a voltage regulator. Which was positioned on the back of the original center cluster.
what you seem to be suggesting will require a lot of loom modification.
just go the whole way and fit a center set up.

You can connect your 'new' Smiths gauges no trouble, but you'll only be able to run the new one or the originals, but not both unless you fit gauge matchers.
If you are buying new gauges, some of the latest Smith Gauges don't need a voltage stabaliser while some do. If you do buy the type that does need it, the easiest way I would suggest is to fit one new the new gauges.
In your existing loom, on the plug on the back of the gauges, you need to find the green / blue wire for the Temp gauge and the green / black wire for the fuel gauge. These will connect directly to your new gauges.
