The plastiguages (squash strips) won't work.
You ideally need to measure them with a bore micrometer or guage. Even the cheaper option of telescopic bore guages can be used if you know what you're doing and have the patience and knack. Although they only measure 2 points so don't measure ovalality.
Ideally they should have 0.001" clearance.

While not the most ideal, you can check the clearances with a feeler gauge.

Something to watch out for if you are replacing the inner pot joints, is to see if your new ones actually fit in the side plates, there has been a batch of joints which are oversize, this causes a world of pain if you aren't aware.

seems to be like this for quite sometime and issues from lots of other suppliers so not a jab at minisport as have had many good parts over the years and will go to them now.
