Hello! I need to upgrade my friendly "meeeep". What horn would be a good pick? looking for a more low tone more modern sound.
and should I install a relay? 91 cooper

A relay will help to ensure you get full voltage to whichever horn you choose

 

Sorry I can't/won't recommend a specific horn; there are loads of electric horns online given good reviews but I generally use the cheapest (Ebay!) air horns on my minis as they are pretty loud and as mentioned don't hurt your wallet too much and they are a bit different sound from the norm of current cars - There should be room under the bonnet on a 91 cooper (carb, no injection gear, ECU etc?)

 

Bit off track but when I started messing around with minis there was no Ebay/internet - the cheapest way to a better horn was to fit something from a better(?) car from the scrapyard; usually twin (tone) horns from something like a Rover P5/P6 or similar, Jag, big Ford, big Vauxhall, even a higher model Austin/Morris /BL car often had twin tone horns

 

Unfortunately scrapyard salvaging is less common these days as you aren't generally allowed to go in and poke around and decide what might work on your mini (think I might start a thread on the subject of parts from other cars fitted to minis) 

 

In Canada I guess you have US model cars in the scrapyards so hopefully you will find something cheap/loud (apologies for the UK car references that may not be comprehensible to non-UK folks)

Don't know if you're still looking for a horn but I installed these twin horns.  It gives a decent more modern sound and are quite loud without sounding like air horns.

I put a pair of Hella Supertones on the volvo, they give a very loud 'get out of the way' when required
