So my car is behaving weirdly. It is running fine, except when running at speed on the motorway, then it seems to sputter and lose revs after driving at constant speed (60 mph) for several minutes. It sputters and the car loses speed as if the engine is cutting out and sputtering back to life repeatedly. Slowing down causes it to recover after a short while.

The problem never happens if i keep engine revs below 3500 when driving, and i can even drive at speed momentarily. Its only continuous driving at speed for several minutes that causes the problem to occur. Its as if not enough fuel is getting into the engine.

My guess is this is a fuel starvation problem? Im using a single HS4 carb, and a solid state facet fuel pump. Ive already taken the top off the float bowl and checked, couldnt see anything obstructing the float valve. I suppose the next place to check would be the fuel pump?

Is there a way to check that fuel flow rate from the pump is good? I was thinking of taking the fuel line off the carb and putting it into a PET bottle and seeing how much fuel comes out after 1 minute.

Check your fuel lines all back make sure no damage or check the rubber joining sections they may be soft and pipe diameter limiting the flow of fuel through under continual pressure at speed.

If there is a fuel filter then has it been replaced recently.?
