I have a 1999 Mpi 40th anniversary mini - just delivered to me after a very competent mechanic (in a different country so I can't go back to him) did a major overhaul of the cooling system. Just a short drive seemed to have no issues. Today I took another very short drive and let it idle for a while; but pulled the heater knob. Maybe related, maybe coincidental. But while idling I noticed a lot of steam from the hood, turned off the car and opened up to find a high pressure coolant leak had happened on the right side of the engine bay (LHD car). Fluid is mostly pooled in the far right hand corner but clearly sprayed under high pressure.
I don't see obvious evidence it's coming from a particular hose connection or the thermostat gasket but I'm going to fill the coolant reservoir and see if I can find the leak while car is running - it seems like it was spraying so it should not be hard to find. But anything I should be thinking about with the possible connection to the heater knob being pulled?
Thanks for patience - this is a new adventure for me.
