My 1967, australian Mk1 cooper S 1275 has AUD146L and R SU carbs but no overflow tube or pipe.

Consequently any o'flow can drip onto the exhaust. Was this standard at the time or are the float chamber

tops incorrect?

You could swap them out for the overflow type

Is that what those dual pipe float chamber lids are for, instead of the little hole in the front underneath the cover below the fuel infeed?

Yes.

Don’t really know what you mean. I don’t think you can adapt the ones you have at the moment but with the ones with twin pipes one is the inlet and the other is the overflow/ open to atmosphere which you join them together and run the pipe to a safer place to overflow. Mine run along the front box section and exit with the rad overflow pipe. Just normal rubber hose does the job.

There are a few different types of fuel bowl lids:

Single entry and pinhole vent/overflow

Twin entry (used to join multiple carbs) and pinhole vent

Single entry and brass pipe vent/overflow

Twin entry (used to join multiple carbs) and brass pipe vent

The pinhole vent type normally have a little alloy plate to direct the fuel overflow downwards.

If you really want an overflow pipe you can get a later lid

The fuel is more likely to just vaporise than ignite. But if you wanted to add pipes, there's already a vent drilling behind the small steel cover.

If the float is working correctly then no fuel will come out. If fuel co,es out then it is time to overhaul and fix the float and valve.
