Morning all!

Got a nice little 1962 car badged as a cooper S with a few issues..

Bit of an odd one here (probably commomplace to you all) Clutch is stuck in the disengaged position. Engine off & in gear, car can be pushed easily & the engine doesnt turn. Start up & gears can be engaged without touching the clutch pedal. Clutch pedal is at the top of its travel & the Clutch Slave is fully extended.

Looking like something has gone astray with the clutch release mechanism. Anyone come across this befpore? New one on me! Going to release the bleed screw & see if that has any effect (hose collapsed?). Will let you know how i get on & would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Will put on a couiple of pics once i figure out how to..

Many thanks all!

Hi and welcome to our forum.

Sorry to read of your issue here.

I'd say it would most likely be the Flex Hose being old. They collapse inwards and then act as a one way valve. While that maybe the issue, I would suggest replacing all the rubber parts on your clutch hydraulics.

I'd also strongly recommend that you don't run the engine until the arm is released, it won't do the crank thrusts any favours or the clutch thrust bearing.

Alrightee!

Did a bit of digging. Loosened the bleed screw & fluid came out but the plunger didnt retract. Took the slave off & there was no pressure from the clutch release arm. Guess the cover is coming off!

The wok plungers seize up for the laugh if the car is stood unused for a while but usually the other way round eg: clutch engaged

Sounds most likely. Will they free off with a twist from a spanner? Would be good to release the pressure before taking the cover off..

Wiggle the two big nuts with a spanner and use some penetrating oil.Are the nuts hard against the wok?Steve..

Arm stuck out. Put spanner on the lock nuts and see if you can get waggle on plunger. Nut not moving on thread. Next tapping stick on the arm to knock it in. Then remove and clean inspect (replace as needed) lube refit.

if you need a second pair of eyes to have a look I travel Evesham Ledbury daily. Also we meet in Malvern https://merciaminis.co.uk/index.html#/

Just me sure that the pin at the pedalbox clevis pin end has not come out or the pedal is not bent.

Check the simple things before the time consuming ones.

Went through everything suggested & the cover had to come off. Sure enough, Release mech stuck in the cover. Pulled it out, cleaned & lubed (used some CV joint grease on it) & reassembled. Looked for any possible cause & found the Washer bottle to pump seal was leaking right onto the siezed part.

Probably not the cause for every siezure but might be worth keeping an eye on.

Thanks for all your advice one & all.

Well done. At least you found it.

Good on you for sharing the resolution.

Thumbs up.
