Hi all, I’ve been a member for around 15-16 years now, my mini Rio was my first car back in 2008 and for the last 13 years it’s been in storage.

Last few weeks I’ve been getting it moved from my parents to my house and am currently in the process of bringing back to the standard I want it at.

My questions is related to the fuel lines, my car has two of them, fuel out and fuel return (facet fuel pump fitted and mechanical removed)

I got under the car the other day and noticed the fuel return line completely missing from the carb (hif44) all the way to the middle clip on the underside of the floor. Then the line carry’s on as normal to the boot/tank.

I did a lot of work to the engine back in 2010 and for the life of me can’t ever remember seeing this or remember connecting 2 pipes for the carb.

What should I do?
Does the 44 have a return line fuel connection?
Why does the car run fine without it assuming it’s always been like this?
Is the second line even needed?

It won’t be a return line if it not a fuel injected car.

If it factory carb car from the early ‘90s that was probably a vent line from the fuel tank to the charcoal canister under the LH wing.

Thanks mate, that makes sense. I’ll remove it I think as the canister is long gone. Thanks for the advice.

Just make sure you keep the vent line running out of the boot floor otherwise you’ll get fuel fumes inside the car.

If you ever need to replace fuel pipes, go to a hardware store and get 8mm microbore (you will need to heat the hose in a cup of boiled water to soften it so it goes on better)

If you are suggesting using pure copper tube as fuel line, that's not ideal, it can fracture, you should use kunifer type tubing,

Yes, I am aware of that, I should have added that I only use a section of microbore along the floor pan of the car and to the fuel pump (so from heel board along floor and then bent to go up the toe board near to the pump).

I've had this on a mini for 10 years and no problems with fractures or failure of the pipe.
