Has anyone had any success with this method for rust removal?
I have
A few years ago I visited my local ALDI and purchased a couple of trays of the cheapest bottles of vinegar I could find ( think it was around 26 )
Removed my tank and sender unit then blocked up all the holes . Chucked in a couple of handfuls of old nuts & bolts then filled it to the rim with vinegar. Left it for a couple of days then gave it a shake up …done this for a couple of weeks then when I emptied it and washed it out it was spotless inside .
I had no issues and I was really happy with the results and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.
Hope this helps but one word of warning don’t use it on your chips afterwards

Pop down to Screwfix and get a bottle of whatever it is to clean out heating systems.

Need to do this myself. On a series land rover tank i used electrolysis and that worked amazing however i could get my arm through the filler neck and scrub as it worked its magic, not possible with a saloon tank! I did clean a few mini bits with brick acid which i believe is hydrochloric and whilst working amazing well its really really dangerous, and flash rust is a problem if not coated in oil immediately after washing it off. Evaporust looks good.

That's another problem, stopping the flash rusting after being cleaned as I'll be putting it into storage for a while.
I'd suggest putting a liner through it after. I've had great success with POR15 and KBS Fuel Tank Kits.
