Hi all

I thought that I'd spend some time through the winter months tidying up the engine bay of my Spi Mini.

I want to remove the throttle body to improve access, but I cannot see how to remove the wiring connector from the injector housing.  Haynes says "release the wire retaining clip" - but how?  The wire clip on the green one on the air filter was loose and I managed to pull it off.  I don’t want to risk damaging the wiring/plug.

The metal clip lifts upwards releasing the plastic tangs and allowing the plug to pull off.Be careful as it is likely to be brittle,Steve..

But how do you get under the clip to spread it and lift it free?  On the throttle body there is no room to get underneath, so I presume a very small pointy thing down the side to winkle the clip out?

Id probably try the thin edge small flat head screwdriver and try to gradually lever the meal clip ring upwards from the bottom edges of both sides, gently one side at a time till it starts to move

then you might end up with a gap large enough at the top edge to get underneath without damaging the plastic

I think there's a similar one on a my distributor? I went at mine with a thin pick at either side until it wriggled free.

There must be a tool for getting these off, no? You can do what others above say and gently pry the sides out BUT we careful the clip does not fly off into the abyss. Keep a finger hovering over the top to be safe. It really doesn't take much to get these to release though so don't overdo it.

Look at the green plug that is already off to see how the clip works, it's the same type

Looks like they are Durite Junior Timer connectors - if google has any wisdom to offer.

The ones I'm familiar with have a gap under the bar so you can just press down & splay the spring ends.

The spring must've moved out enough to ride over the locking ramp. Could you push on the cut end & get a feeler blade, or similar in to stop it springing back in?

A quick Google shows that the Duralite connectors are very similar, but they have an aperture at the top to allow the clip to be easily removed.

Looks like I'll have to stick with carefully using a pick or similar and making sure I don't loose the clip or break the plastic.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Wiggle a small flat head screwdriver either side to raise it slightly and attach a small piece of tape before finally pinging it off. Very easy to lose when it flies off!

That is what I have done but there has to be an official way to get these off, right? Seems mad to think of a Rover dealer doing that during maintenance.

They are the older type of "Junior Timer" connector and there isn't an "easy" way to remove them. The newer versions were redesigned to be easily removeable by hand as others have described. The newer version is compatible with the old version.
