As title.... where did you put the key to start MK2's ?

Mine's on the steering column and looks like it was fiited at a later date. Is it easy to convert back to a dashboard fitting ?

I think(?) only mk1's had the ignition key by the switches and the starter on the floor.

Just looked at the wiring diagrams, and in 1964 it seems that the combined ingition switch and starter was first used. Placement of the switch I cannot determine

mk2's only have a slightly bigger steering coloum shroud, than the mk1, but its still smaller than the mk3, i cant remeber what shape it is tho, pretty sure they dont have the cut-out/slot for the isnition switch.

so if its got a mk3 colum shroud, then perhaps it was originaly on the dash....?

I converted my car from a column mounted ignition switch (Canadian) to a late Mk2/Mk3 dash mounted-for no other reason than I liked the look. I needed a switch plate (ALE2960), a bezel (ALE6640), ign switch (31799), Mk2/Mk3 cowl (8G6035) and the proper switches for the headlights and wipers. If you have all of this, then never mind! Some messing about with wire loom required but straightforward. All you need is power, ignition and starter. Maybe too much info for the initial question. Go for the dash mount but be advised that that may have to re-key if you want a single key for ignition, boot and doors.
