What I know from reading:

Nankang is a trailer tyre - so useless

Falken are really bad in the wet

Yokohama 008 is the best burdget choice, the advan A032 if you rate grip (dry and wet) over life expectancy.

The Blockleys are said to be a good choice, i.e. value and grip for money

It depends on which one. Mini Spares  now offer this one: https://www.minispar...co-2-165-70-10. Reviews on this tyre are not very good, but it's not a trailer tyre ;-). I guess you are referring to this one: https://www.minispar...-145-80-10-69s. Have you considered Dunlop R7's as well? Although they are very pricey, the grip levels seem to be very good. Wear rate is not too good from what I read on the MK1 forum...

I normally use Yoko A008's, but  think I'll try the Blockley 'SP3 lookalikes' when next I need a set.

I have A008s on 10 inch rims and Falkens on 12 i ch and there is hardly any difference on gravel and dry bitumen. As for the wet I cannot say as I rarely go out in the rain, one of the joys of Aus.

A few years ago we couldn’t get A008’s at most tyre shops in Aus. Yes you can order them online from the UK, but then once delivered and fitted they were really expensive

I’ve heard a few people have good experiences with the Nankang Eco Sport 165/70R10. It’s a much more modern tread design than the A008 (for better or worse) but they perform at least as good as A008. They are also significantly cheaper here too

I have nankang eco sport 165/70R12 on my daily since 2023. I wanted yokos but were out of stock at the time so got these. Used on a 54 mile round commute everyday, rain or shine and never been an issue, that includes motorway driving.

Seems I missed the new Nankang, which is NOT a trailer tyre. I stand corrected.

The Nankang 145 R10 also comes in 2 different versions:

Nankang TR10 145/80R10 - passenger car - load rating 69, speed rating S (180kph)

Nankang TR10 145R10 - light truck & trailer - load rating 84, speed rating N (140kph)

I am waiting to hear for more feedback on the passenger car version as these seem to be one of the only 145 R10 tyres available at tyre stores here. They have a reasonably vintage look and are around half the price of an A008

the nankang seems to have a similar design to the old camac tyre these wer pretty crap wet or dry and used te screech round tight corners going slowly, embaressing, the falken were arlways predictable wet or dry on 10 or 12 inch, i ran both. the A008 on 10's are great in the dry and similar to falkens in the wet, in my experience.i would avoid A032 if driving anything other than total dry roads, had a friend on a run with us it was raining and had these on he needed a drink when we got back to the pub and changed them out shortly afterwards

Those nankangs seem to have a very narrow contact patch, rather like the latest yokohama 145/10 classic tyres.  The contact patch on the yokohama is only about 100 mm wide compared to an old Camac 313 I have that has a contact patch of about 125 mm.  The yokohama might look fine as a classic tyre on a 3.5 in rim but it looks too narrow on a 4.5 in rim.

An A008 165/10 has a contact patch width of about 130mm.
