My late model cooper sports oil temperature gauge quickly reads in the red (over 140 deg C on gauge)  under normal driving speeds and conditions when the coolant temperature is normal. It’s already had a new sensor ( the blue transducer one with andapter from mini spares and gauge fitted by a previous owner. The car shows no other sign of overheating, what could be the cause? New sensor failed again?
sorry if this has already been asked about in other feeds.
the mini specialist says an oil cooler shouldn’t need to be fitted under a standard 63 BHP state of tune.

Thanks in advance.

I think a starting point would be to check what the true temperature of the oil is. It generally follows the coolant temperature, though with a bit of time lag. After that, if it really is reading high, I'd say (based on the coolant sensors currently available) that the sensor would be the likely culprit here. Try and find what it's temperature / resistance characteristics should be and check against that.

From experience, the mpi oil temp gauge over reads. You'll be seeing around 110°c on high speed cruise.
