Good morning guys,

Could someone please check my calculations are right?

I'm pre loading the diff.

Basically I have measured my side case with no shims and I have no gap.

I've measured My gasket and it's 15 tho.
I have the steel bearing needing 2 thou pre load (KSM)

With shims I have got the gap to 17 thou
Is this correct? Indicating a 2 thou preload?

As the gasket would take up 15 thou, then I'm left with 2 tho of shim pushing on the bearing?

Thanks in advance, Luke

That sounds fine. It's difficult to get a true measurement as seldom are the cases machined parallel and the side covers are distorted.

You have to remember the gasket will compress when these flanges are tightened up.

It may be worth sacraficing a gasket to see if a compressed gasket changes your calculations.

Only my thoughts.
