Interesting problem with the wife's MG1100. Generator light is off at idle but glowed bright red when I revved the engine. Checked the battery voltage, 11.8, static. Had the trickle charger on it for a couple of days and batt voltage back to 12.8, warning light operating normally. However, with the engine running, no matter the speed, only 12.6V at the battery terminals. My diagnosis is faulty or out-of-adjustment voltage regulator. Should be close to 14.5, right?
