I imported a 1996 SPI from Japan and naturally the speedometer reads in KM.  So i purchased an instrument cluster from the UK.  Speedometer (MPH), fuel/water tempt and the tach.  I was exspecting the speedometer to be off but it turns out it is spot on as is the fuel guage and water temperature.  The tack is a different story,   While busing down the road at 45 MPH the tack was reading over 6000RPM.  It didn;t matter what speed I was going the RPM's was always way off.  The engine runs perfectly.  The instrument cluster I purchased came out of an MPI Then it dawned on me that the igniion coils on the SPI and MPI aren't even similiar to each other.  Could this be my problem?

Thanks for liistening

Yep!

The mpi creates 1 pulse per revolution, the spi creates 2. You'll need an SPi tacho.

Just fit your old tacho, fairly straightforward to swap.
