Hey guys in need of a little help with an ignition map for my newly built turbo engine, lowered cr 8.5 Kent kc500 mild cam running an intercooler. My question is the map I'm currently running is it safe for initial running, only been running for 40 minutes so far to about 3k rpm. Cheers Marty

If you've been driving it for 40 minutes, the engine is next to run in. I just hope you've put it under some load, otherwise those rings won't have had the sufficient forces required to bed.

First make sure you have your igntion timing offset correct with a timing light.

I'd say your figures on boost could be a bit dangerous, especially near a bar of boost. If it were me, i'd knock 4 degrees out of all boost cells until you can get it dyno'd by someone with det cans.

Ignition timing should increase with RPM. There is no hard and fast rule with this, however looking at my own map, from 3500-7000, it increases by 2-3 degrees. So for safety, i'd start your 140KPA row from 3500 at 21 degrees, set the 7000 cell to 23 degrees, then linearise between them. Work with that in mind and set the rest of the boost cells to similar. Id also set your 10 & 20 cells to 18 all round, unless you want to say goodbye to your valves :D

Thanks Steve, really appreciate you spending the time with your in depth reply, I have already dropped the figures across the board around 5degrees but I will follow your advice and go through the map more thoroughly, I calibrated the timing on a set figure on tuner studio and check it with a timing light before starting so those numbers are the true timing as there's no dizzy anymore with the vacuum advance. I plan to get it on a Dyno soon so probably won't run it anymore till then. Thanks again your comments have really helped Cheers Marty
