Now back on the project and thought I would trial fit the rear window before doing the preparation for painting. Did the same thing with the front one moons ago without much trouble. However, the rear one is not so easy. I’ve watched a couple of videos but can’t understand how, when fitting the rubber to the body first, it doesn’t fall off the top and sides whilst working on the bottom and its corners. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If the rubber won't stay in place just hold it there with a few lengths of masking or duct tape. At the top place a length horizontally along the upper edge of the rubber and tape it to the body, same on the sides but place the strips vertically.  Put the lower edge of the screen into the rubber, ease the lower corners in ,work up both sides and finish top centre. Diluted fairy liquid makes a good lube, and use a hard plastic tool to run round the rubber, don't use a metal tool. If you're struggling it's really useful to have someone inside the car to push the rubber outwards to meet with the glass edge.

The seals normally grip the seam well enough to hold themselves in place but if it is sagging a few pieces of masking tape should hold it up.

Hi,

This might sound silly but have you managed to turn the seal inside out so that you are fitting the wider glass groove of the seal to the car body.

No, Paddy, the seal is the correct way round.

Taping the rubber to the top and sides had the desired effect and the glass is now in. So simple but I had thought that someone might have some other nifty ideas other than tape.

Thanks for your replies, next is taking the screen out again and on to prepping for paint.

So come on then.. how many taps....did you give it with the mallet before you got the screen in... first one was a proper test light tap wasn't it.......
