Hi

A friend had an accident in his 1998 mpi Mini and has just discovered that the front fusebox has been damaged in the accident.

He's rigged up a temporary repair, but is looking for a replacement.  Does anyone know where one can be found?  Its out of stock everywhere, and I can't even see any on eBay!

Thanks!

You're going to have to be lucky on ebay or when MPi's get broken on facebook.

Somerford says to customer order. Or message  x-oldenglishwhite-x on eBay as he breaks and sells. The last listed were his.

So, the "Damage" looks more like a serious short that made the fuse get so hot, it melted the fuse holder. If you look at the wire coming from the burnt fuse, you can see that the insulation is melted away. I know SPis only but those brown wires carry the power around the car. I would be sure you are checking the wiring before installing a seemingly rare part once you find one.

Looked into this closer and this is the fuse box at the very front of the engine bay, correct? In front of the brake master? Did they have a front end collision? Maybe some of the bodywork crushed into the fuse area and caused the short that melted this?

You are going to have to repair the wires so buy generic maxi blade fuse holders and fit them.12volt planet can supply such things.Steve..

bit of a daft place to put a fuse holder really, right up the front there.. blame Rover for that I guess

just wondering if when replacing it might also be an idea to relocate it, or add some protection.  bare minimum you can get fuse holders with a clear plastic lid and you could 'pot and seal' the connections with some hot glue or similar to protect against the elements

just random musings, I know it doesn't answer the question where can I get one

When you replace it, make sure there's sufficient insulation between the wires and the mount, incase it rubs.

This is one I have: https://imgur.com/a/44DUFA1

Looks good apart from the two parts where it slides onto the clips.
