Hi all
Just got my mini back on the road after quite some time. 1989 F reg so needed an MOT. All sorted on that side but now I have a knock, clack, whack or thump from something under the bonnet when my foot comes off the accelerator.
Possibly an engine mount or tie bar problem but nothing seems to be out of kilter or in the way of anything else apart from everything is always in the way of everything else in a mini
If so what’s the most common thunk noise
Any ideas?

It definitely does sound like a mount of some sort. The engine will naturally Have some movement stationary, but this is much more exaggerated when driving Have you checked exhaust mountings?

I had a clunk noise when the clutch engaged in reverse, and sometimes when pulling away in 1st. I checked subframe mounts engine mounts, etc..

It turned out to be the U-bolts holding the steering rack that were a bit loose.

Tightened those and noise gone.
