Identifying Under The Bonnet Part

Best Answer mullet , 27 April 2025 - 04:34 PM

I believe indeed, this must have been a relay for the blower horn.  I disconnected this extra cable from the original horn, so seems now like the relay is isolated.  Now my lights work again.  Thanks for all the help.

Hello everyone.  Going to be a really stupid question this, but what is this part called sitting under the screenwash container of a 1984 Mayfair, automatic 1000cc?

I am going to guess a relay for your hazards or indicators but not original.

Thanks for the reply.  It's not this because I replaced this relay (on the other side of the engine).  This thing has a lot of black cables going to it, like earth cables.  The horn earth goes to it, too.

A 84 mini would have a single wire + to the horn. If it has been changed to a two wire horn is it a high powered horn or maybe air horns fitted at some stage. If you press the horn do you feel the relay click.

Something aftermarket.

take it off and look for markings. Or better images.

Thanks to both of you experts.  I think you are both onto something here.  During the last equivalent of a French MOT, they asked me to remove the additional air powered horn since this modification is not permitted (even though it's had many years getting through MOTs before with it fitted; lack of consistency!).  I removed the blower horn and otherwise left the original horn as it was (+purple/black the black line back to this as-yet identified part).

The blower horn was also connected to this unidentified part.  Makes me wonder therefore, if this part is there because it was needed for the blower horn.

The original reason why I asked what this part is, is because I have light issues (see thread https://www.theminif...hts-not-working).  I am unsure if the light issue started because I removed the blower horn because unfortunately I haven't been able to get out and about with the car and this issue might have existed without me realising.  This made me search and I found this youtube link www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FrgruxJeFA

So possibly this part was just a relay for the "illegal" horn.  Looks like I should remove and reset back to how it was out the factory. Will update thread as soon as possible.
