I had the exhaust loose to do a manifold gasket and noticed it had been rubbing the battery cable after a nut had somehow wedged between the two (and welded itself to the exhaust, oops) .. that cable has now been relocated but despite fiddling its still rubbing on the floor in that area, its the y-piece/ collector rubbing the start of the tunnel.

it seems just enough here, but once its warm/running it rubs just a bit at idle.. Don't want to stress the manifold seal on the gasket.

Its an LCB just to clarify.

I have good bushes on both steadies and the upper is adjustable.

Has the Manifold been replaced since new ?

Its an LCB, not a stock one, car originally had the cast one piece manifold

Is it a 1300 or an 850 / 1000 / 1100 small bore engine?

Manifolds can be different heights due to block hight differences. Also if you have used an adjustable top engine steady it can cause issues.

at least it is not dragging on the ground.

Have you got the adjustable steady adjusted so it's tilting the engine forward more than normal?
This would cause the Y piece and everything attached to move up into the tunnel.

I had it a bit forward for carb clearance,  that makes sense, I'll move it back. Should I just adjust it to where the engine wants to sit?

As has already been suggested, it could be a 998/1100 manifold on a 1275. 1275 manifolds are longer.

I have had this a few times. What usually works is slackening off all of the exhaust clamps and fixings, except the manifold to head nuts. Then make up a wooden wedge and thump it between the Y-piece and body so that you have c.1/4" clearance. Do up all the clamps and mountings tight, then remove the wedge. Most times that will give clearance.

If it doesn't, then it's likely the manifold is too short and is for a 1098 engine or similar, not the taller 1275.

I'm intrigued.
Who sells small bore only lcb's?
I thought they were all the same lengthwise.
Minispares only mention small bore engines on one of their lcb's but they also say it's for largebore engines too.

You used to be able to get them, but perhaps they are NLA. I always need the big-bore ones for the 1275's. Maybe the 'budget' ones are not of consistent quality, whereas the Maniflow ones seem to always fit well,

Pretty much yes, though there's always going to be bit of float without the top steady.  If you have a non adjustable steady it might be best to use that.

If you have a standard steady bar measure centre of bolt (bulkhead) to centre of bolt (engine) and set your adjustable one likewise 👍
