I have a HandyMig (pic attached) that I inherited. Any ideas which model it is and where I might get an operators manual? I’m struggling to find good settings for panel work and for welding a grafting spade back together!

Sip handymig?

Notoriously poor out of the box, however with some work they can be made to weld ok.

Thanks Shifty. I managed to spend some time over the weekend tinkering and managed to start getting some decent welds on some box section. The welder was set-up badly, drive wheel on wrong gauge, spool wrong way and clutch too tight. I will get some 1.0mm ordered and start on some functional stuff soon.

I may need a new welding mask too, it was difficult to see the detail of the weld and seemed too bright... could be old eyes though!

Best to get an 'auto-dim' mask. They make life so much simpler.

The problem with the SIP Handy-Mig is the short duty-cycle. I had one a long time ago and it would weld for three to four minutes, then require a break of around 10 minutes.

I then got a big Miller 150 unit and it will weld and weld all day long.

Thanks Cooperman, I do have an auto-dim, it’s just quite old and the lens is a bit faded/scratched so probably just needs replacing. Strange because the Perspex cover lens is fine!!
3-4 minutes of welding with a ten minute break will probably suit my skills at the moment, but thanks for the heads up.

you can get 'full colour' ones as well so you're not looking at everything in a dim shade of green all the time trying to aim accurately

mines this one https://www.amazon.c...in_title_1&th=1

its not 'the best' or anything but it's worked pretty well for me for a year or so now, thin panel work and heavier duty stuff with the current turned up (5-6mm fencing and gate repairs)
