Hi, I have owned my mini for almost 14 years now. The FOB button has always been somewhat tricky, having to press it multiple times. But now it refuses to turn of the red light and I cannot start my car.
I have of course changed the 2032 battery. Inspecting the FOB board, it all looks in good condition. And yes, I bought it with only one fob.

Is sending the alarm unit away to a different country still the only option to fix this? No way of bypassing?

Thanks from Norway.

Yeah, that was what I was hoping to avoid, sending the immobilizer out of the country.

Anyway, it started working again.. not a great feeling being unsure if you can get the kids home from kindergarden.

Checked all the solder joints on the key and measured it, seems to be in perfect condition..

Classic Rover Mini Two Button Lucas Key Fob 1997 to 2001 (with DIY programmer)

If this is as advertised, I haven't used one, it means you don't have to send the immobiliser out of the country.

Glad it is all sorted!

I consider myself lucky to have had no issues so far after 25 years... But I do live in fear as I will not be able to fix this sort of issues myself regardless of how big of I hammer I use! I am far away from mini resources of any kind especially those for MPI minis....

There was a period of time during a relocation when I left my mini without a battery for an extended time. Someone told some story about some american car's immobilizer 'forgetting' its codes after being without power for an extended time - and this then turning into a 'brick'. (- forever dead).

I lived in fear for quite a while before I went back to my mini. It re-set and gave me no issues. - Still, in preparation for the uncertain future;

Is there a way to get rid of the immobilizer function?

I believe so, but it requires a computer to explain to the ECU that it is turned off.

I had this guy turn off the "auto arm" which used to drive me crazy. he also provide me with two replacement fobs, programmed to my car

Oh - This is great news! Thanks.
Not all hope is lost... - I suppose you have to bring the car to him though...

It was easy for me, I did it when I was on a London to Brighton Mini Run.

Great idea! I'd love to do that! But it would be a long drive!
