Wider Tyres On Standard Steel Rims

Unfortunately i now have to sell these alloys, but was wondering if they will fit on my standard steel rims of my 1993 Mini Rio instead?
Or will they be too wide?
The standard size tyre for these steel rims is 145/70R12. It’s a 12 inch wheel.
Any advice most appreciated.

Shouldn't be an issue at all. There's not much difference between 165 and 145. Your speedo may read differently due to the slight change in circumference, but I don't think I know many Minis that have that accurate a speedo in the first place.

From experience, a mini wobbles like a jelly with a 165/70/10 fitted to a standard 3.5x10 steel rim.

Ideally for a 165 section tyre the minimum wheel width is 5".
Your steel rims may be stamped showing their diameter and width, so ideally you want to see 12 x 5J stamped on the wheel.

A 165 tyre will not fir well on a 3.5" wide rime. A 165 tyre is fine on a 4,5" rim and that is what most people fit onto the 4.5" 'S' rims and after-market 4.5 x 10 or 4,5 x 12 alloy rims.

Depends on the width of the steel rim.
From experience, a mini wobbles like a jelly with a 165/70/10 fitted to a standard 3.5x10 steel rim.
You`re not wrong there

The Mighty Mini racers use the standard 4.5" width rim with Yokohama 165 tyres and it`s fair to say they can corner like they`re on rails so there`s no problem fitting 165`s to yours.

Yes they will fit. It seems some commenters have missed that it's about 12" rims and tyres.
