i have all the original brake pipes for my mini advantage. all seem good but old, have over spray on them etc. now i could make them out of copper but the car had these green pipes on it from the factory and if i can id like to keep them. is there a paint or something you lot do when doing brake pipes to original spec? or just should i stop over thinking it and make copper ones? They never look right to me though.

thanks.

The green is a plastic coating in the steel pipes.

you can buy the base pipe and remake.

But don't use copper.Copper/nickel is what you could use as an alternative to steel.Steve..

If you are wanting to restore the car back to 'as factory' then I'd find a coil of that coated pipe and re-make new ones. If you are looking to restore it back to something that you'll be using and not too hung up on factory appearances, then remake them in zinc coated pipe or cupro-nickle.

It'll be difficult to clean the pipes and re-coat them with something to keep them nice.

And... take a picture to see those tubes should be so difficult?
Why are people so afraid to post photos when you come here to publicly ask for help? I don't understand it.

thanks for the replies! I was hoping i could restore these ones. The main reason is ME! lol. I did a lot of work on a mini van a few years ago, one thing i did to it was change the clutch master, guy just said get a new one, and i got one of the mgf types. Works fine, everyone was happy, but every time i opened the bonnet i thought "oh this is all nice/used/working... look at that plastic master cylinder! "

ill open the bonnet and think, "nice engine, look at the wobbly brake pipes!" as i think i wont be able to get them as good as the factory ones.

It is also like, if you can avoid it, DO NOT learn to paint cars, you will see every imperfection in cars from then on and it gets annoying lol

Ill probably get the zinc coated pipe like Spider says.

The Pipe is usually supplied in coils. You can get inexpensive tube straighteners that make the tube nice and straight before you start working on them.

You can also get some nice benders that make a nice job of doing the bends.

CBS have a good range of these and other brake tools.
