Hello everyone!
I'm looking to make some modifications to a Jap spec automatic mini. Being a later sports pack you would normally think they are MPI but due to the aircon, auto box etc in a Jap mini these later ones still run spi while the manual run mpi (i think).
I heard somewhere that normally spi mini's had a vented tank and mpi's do not.
I was curious if anyone knows if these later jap auto mini's with aircon run a vented or not? considering most of this model had the non vented type for the mpi.
to be honest all of this is because I'm trying to figure out if i can somehow fit a Aston styled cap to the car but all of the listings online say they won't fit mpi models. but this is technically a spi. So idk

If it's got the charcoal canister it'll be a non vented. I have a 94 automatic with carburettor with the charcoal canister and mine is non vented. I think there was a cutover period with the SPi when mine was produced.

I am curious, Is this converted from injection ? Do you have a working purge valve for the charcoal canister, and how is it activated? I have the dilemma with the R1 engine swap, on how to activate the valve. I need to have it operational for the engineering report.

I'm sorry to be critical, but this sounds like a contradiction. The "i" in SPi/MPi stands for injected, which means that there is no carburettor. Vice versa, if your car has a carburettor it is not an injection engine.

Probably it would be easiest to answer if you can post a photo of the engine bay.

Most likely it is a non vented cap however I have zero experience with SPI minis. They would've likely used a special type of cap for emissions, that's what my 80s Japanese mini has.

Oh... Where to get that ? I changed my tank due to poor fitting around the filler neck , and the filler neck on the swapped tank is slightly different, and the non-vented cap I had does not fit. That looks like what I need.

There was a cutover period when they introduced the SPi some minis were produced with carburettors. To get rid of the the stock? The emission equipment was the same on both hence the non vented cap.

It definitely left the factory with a carburettor. With regard to the purge valve I am unsure. There is a vacuum switch screwed into the thermostat sandwich plate that the canister is linked to and also the inlet manifold.. That may be what initiates the purge.

It fits the standard mini tanks so I'm not sure what your issue is. Here are the part numbers: SL44EC or TFL217. SL44EC can be found for $22 delivered.
