Hello,

Doing up a '78 Morris Mini 1000 with my son, and we are up to kitting out the doors.

Put in new upper door seals from Minispares, put the glass in, put in the regulators after cleaning them up fully and greasing them, and having real troubles with the door seals.

On that transition around the door lock where it goes from being a full seal, to only on one side, and then back to a full seal again, the glass hits the transition back to a full seal and it bunches up the rubber, and it almost fully binds up.

The rest of the movement is not great though either, its tight.

I remember having this exact same issue on my other mini, and got door rubbers from Phoenix Trim, and they were much better, but I would have thought after all this time the Minispares ones would have been sorted out - but I have exactly the same problem on this mini as I did my other.

Feels like you are going to break the crank handle off in order to wind them up, and when you hit that transition in the seal where it bunches up, its exponentially worse.

Anyone else having this problem and what was the solution? Is it to get Phoenix Trim seals, and not use the Minispares ones, or is something else going on you think?

The seals look fully inserted into the channel, there are no tight spots, all looks good.

I made a little video, its on Onedrive, you can download or stream from here: 20250526_202323.mp4

This video is winding with 2 hands, its so tight. You can also see the rubbers moving in the channel when it hits that transition.

Thanks

I fitted the "genuine" upper door seals from minispares about 8 years ago and have had no issues with them. Windows wind up and down perfectly. But, I've known others on here have similar issues to you.

I was having similiar issues with mine from Minispares, and the channel on the glass was over too far that it was catching the rubber around the handle cut-out section.

But I see that the glass itself is causing your issue, maybe make the cut more anglur?

I also used plenty of silicone spray to make it easier.

Rather than cutting the hard edge where it returns to a full seal, I squashed it down and put superglue behind it, so it made a sort of ramp isntead and that appears to have solved this bunching up issue.
Put some Silicon spray on the rest of the seal, and that has also assisted. Its still quite tight but its considerably better than it was. Hopefully it continues to improve as it works in.

Only issue now is the glass on one side goes up on a slight angle - which I have a funny feeling is related to the regulator arm knobs where they slide in the channels in the bottom of the glass, or the channels themselves. Likely worn. They have not rotted out or anything, but I did notice the knobs that run in the channel had a flat spot on one side, so this could very well be the issue.

Thanks for the assistance
