Hi everyone! For a few weeks now, when turning the steering wheel sideways, I've been hearing a low, "heavy, dry" sound. It seems like there's a lack of lubrication somewhere. 10 months ago, new bushings were installed in the steering column (from the center of the steering wheel to the bottom), and a new steering box was also installed. What can I do to make it run smoothly and stop that sound?

Cheers in avance!

Its not the indicator switch housing rubbing on the steering wheel by chance?

To help locate the sound, you could try disconnecting the Steering Column from the "Steering Box" (aka the Steering Rack) and see if turning the Steering Wheel, makes the noise.

Thanks friend. Yes, it's a way to rule things out. But isn't there something that can be greased? Perhaps a good squirt of WD-40 down the steering column... because I understand that the steering box (steering rack) being new, doesn't need any maintenance now, or does it?

What age car do you have?

Pre 1985 Minis had a felt bush at the bottom of the column that should be soaked in oil before fitting.

Yes, exactly. This one predates 1985. You've explained it very well. That felt was replaced along with the bushings, and I already told the professional who did the work to soak it in oil. Whether he did it or not, I don't know. I'm going to put some oil on it.Thanks a lot man!

Does the sound happen when you rotate the steering wheel both to the left and to the right? Or only in one direction?
