Has anyone used one of the £50 engine stands off eBay? Any good? Safe?
I've never used an engine stand before so thought I'd treat myself for this build.

Attached File  2.jpg   77.98K   7 downloadsI have an ebay one and its ok.  Its held my a+ block and gearbox whilst i built it up and also a land rover engine.

I bought a ready made a+ bracket as the one it came with was not suitable.

So the plate which comes with the stand is not suitable for a mini engine?
Where did you get the A+ plate?

I've not got an eBay stand, but I had to make a plate for A series and A+ as mine was originally made for Xflow and duratec.

I bought an engine stand from Machine Mart, but got a plate from Ebay as I couldn't weld at the time, nor had the materials to make a new plate up. Think it cost me £20 at the time but it was a few years ago...

I think most of them are built to a specific size in the same factory and then given brand stickers depending on where they are being sold.

no it came with this yellow thing with four adjustable arms needing long bolts.   They worked with the land rover engine bolting onto the flywheel back end but not really suitable for the mini.  The plate also came from ebay

I use the standard plate and acquired some longer UNF bolts.

What are the welded on nuts for on the back of the plate?

I'd imagine they're used as spacers.
The oil filter head mounting face and alternator bracket mounting faces are not at the same height and spacers are needed.
