When removing the old brake line under the car, all the rubber protectors that prevented metal-on-metal contact were damaged. What can I use to protect the new brake line during installation?

I had some 1.5 mm neoprene sheet cut 30mm x 60mm pieces wrapped the 30 mm width round the pipe pushed the pipe into the clips and closed/ bent the clip with my thumb. 6 thousand miles later nothing has moved or come unclipped and no fraying on the pipe as the neoprene holds the pipe away from the body between the clips.
