Hi,

Just fitted new bearings to the front hubs.  The inboard seals have a slim spacer which the seal butts up against, all good there.  When I pressed in the outboard seals, they sit hard up against the bearing itself.  This makes my hubs hard to turn.  Is this normal?  Will they wear a little on first use and free up, or have I pressed them in too far?

The Outboard seals are fitted about 0.5 mm down from the face of the Hub, fitting them flush will be OK. Pressing them in all the way to the Bearing makes them ineffective and the lips may be minced up in the rollers.

For a very short time, on the Drum Braked cars, they did fit a spacer here - 1/8" thick. I make and fit spacers to both sides just to make it easier and more fool proof. Inboard spacer is 3/16".

Sorry,  lack of detail.   This is on Disc brake hubs.  It's a 94 JDM,  but being a mini,  it's had hands on it on the past,  e.g. 1 hub had the original Timken bearing and the old thick inboard spacer,  the other had a reproduction bearing, no inboard space, no weather seal, and a finger tight hub nut !   Anyway, just curious about the outer seal to bearing shell clearance, if any.

Thanks,  sounding like I pressed them in a bit too much as they are hard up against the bearing itself.  I'll back em out a bit so there is some clearance. Cheers.
