Hello. The grill of my 1984 mini mayfair is starting to rust. Not to the point of holes yet, just paint starting to flake off. Given its form, it seems very hard to repaint and be confident the rust will not return. Is it better to just get a new one?

Can A Front Grill Really Be Repainted?

If you mean the backplate, I did mine.
Paint strip, derust, paint and reassemble.

Hi,
I stripped front and back faces of the Moop's grill. Filled the odd rust hole and then sprayed it Nimbus Grey using a rattle can.

Grills as above will just need the rivets drilled out and a sand back and paint.
If it is the old Mayfair grill one piece I would suggest getting it sand blasted then the finish is vast in options. Paint, rattle tin, powder coat, wrap, or even sticker bomb...
Soo many decisions, so little time...

Hi Paddy. That's the same grill I have and your result is very good. Did you chemically strip the paint and rust (eg, hydrochloric acid or other product?). Did you do the same to the pushbar? My pushbar not only has rust coming through the chrome finish, but gets damaged with people reversing into it. I was thinking of painting it and touch up from time-to-time, but was unsure of how it would look until your photo.
