Hi all,

I'm deciding on the styling for my 1986 Mini Chelsea and want to go with a pair of lucas square 8 or another form of square spotlight/foglight to go under the bumper. Does anyone have any photos of this as google is absolutely useless in finding photo examples and also have any advice of how to fit them. Cheers  :proud:

Back in the day I used two reverse lamps ender the bumper just drilled into the bumper lip and mounted that way.

Plenty prewired kits available and how to connect it to main loom on line.

Somebody, like 'Les Leston', sold a pair of brackets that bolted to the Subframe, using the nut of the suspension Tie Bar.

As Nick refers to, under bumper was always fog lamps, low down is good for short distance illumination such as the sides of the road but no good for penetrating any sort of distance. These were usually rectangular to enable decent size fog lamps to be fitted with less fear of them catching something.  Higher up is much better for distance, i.e. spot lamps or 'driving lamps'.

Legally under-bumpers lights are for use in foggy conditions only. I can’t remember the actual definition of fog, but I think it’s visibility of 100 yards or less.
From memory, in order to use auxiliary lights for normal driving, the centre of the light must be 16” above ground level. Then those lights must automatically go off when dipped beam is selected.
Low set fog lights may be used with the headlights switched off to reduce glare in thick fog. They must be mounted as a pair.

Certainly 100m for rear fogs. Front fogs are likely a bit more complicated as you can use them without headlights - provided they are fitted in the correct place. I don't think it would be a good idea with them that low though, you could easily disappear in even a small undulation in the road.
