123Ingition Distributor Rotor Position Wrong?

Best Answer Steam , 13 June 2025 - 10:23 AM

Yep the dissy doesn't care where the leads are so providing no1 fires at the correct time all will be good. Go to the full post

Hi All,

I'm getting around to fitting an electronic distributor in my A+ engine, previously I've always just had Lucas 45D with points.
I have always set the static timing by having the engine at TDC and the rotor always pointed at No 1 cylinder. This can be seen in this photo

As you can see in the next photo, when the distributors are lined up with the slots in the same location, the 123Ignition rotor points at what would be Cylinder 2 in the firing order.

Here is a photo of it fitted.

Does this become an issue? Or is it a case of just adjusting the HT lead positions so that this is now the Number 1 cylinder position?

Thanks!

There 8s obviously a discrepancy between the 2 dissys shaft position. While not right it is not a deal breaker. At tdc wire the plug leads according to the rotor position and time as usual.
It all depends on how much it bothers you as to whether you have 123 fix it. Or you could remove and reposition the drive cog in the block but it can be a PITA to get right.

Yeah I don't want to be touching the drive cog in the block if necessary. I've messaged 123Ignition to see what their thoughts are, but atleast my thoughts of changing the HT lead according to the new TDC wiring position should be ok that will be the next option.

Before BMC put a "Condom" on the cap, I used to set the distributor with the leads pointing downwards.  It helped to keep all four firing in the rain.
