Howdy all.

I've recently bought my dream car :)

Well, it's not there yet, but I've found a remarkably rust free 1985 Mini ritz to turn into the mini I've dreamed of owning for over 25 years. It's not quite a shoestring build, but definately low budget. I will be doing eveything I possibly can myself. I know my way around a car, and am not afraid of learning new skills :)

The previous owner obviously had plans for the car and had started work on it, hence the condition it's currently in. the upside is I know that other than a small repair in the footwells, the bodywork isn't hiding anything sinister. It does need a new rear valance, and The A panels are *just* starting to go, so these will be done in time. it wasn't running, so I've already stripped and rebuilt the HS4, fixed a leaking exhaust gasket and set the timing - runs really well now, but I think there may be arattle in the gearbox.

The build will NOT be quick, and also all done on my driveway - no garage here.

List of order of work (mainly for me)

Get the body 100% and painted.

7.5" cooper brakes for 10" wheels

Hilos, new shocks (and new springs?)

Sort some dodgy electrics

(gearbox?)

That will allow me to get it MOT'd.

After that;

Interior

Engine... I want 100BHP. Tempted to turbo/supercharge the 998 due to the current cost of 1275s!

A very sad pic of how she sits today;

Always like a Ritz, rare now.   My sister got one brand new in 1985 (the cow), C653 DBM. Wish she still had it,or I had bought it off her - its in car heaven now.

Just remember, the plastics are not supposed to be black, they are a grey - a lot you see are wrong.  How do I know? Well, as a 17 year old in my sister's brand new mini, I took off a door mirror and had to wait ages for the correct colour one to arrive from Austin Rover.  I'm not sure she ever forgave me but she can't talk, as she traded it in for a Nissan Cherry!
