Howdy all.
I've recently bought my dream car :)
Well, it's not there yet, but I've found a remarkably rust free 1985 Mini ritz to turn into the mini I've dreamed of owning for over 25 years. It's not quite a shoestring build, but definately low budget. I will be doing eveything I possibly can myself. I know my way around a car, and am not afraid of learning new skills :)
The previous owner obviously had plans for the car and had started work on it, hence the condition it's currently in. the upside is I know that other than a small repair in the footwells, the bodywork isn't hiding anything sinister. It does need a new rear valance, and The A panels are *just* starting to go, so these will be done in time. it wasn't running, so I've already stripped and rebuilt the HS4, fixed a leaking exhaust gasket and set the timing - runs really well now, but I think there may be arattle in the gearbox.
The build will NOT be quick, and also all done on my driveway - no garage here.
List of order of work (mainly for me)
Get the body 100% and painted.
7.5" cooper brakes for 10" wheels
Hilos, new shocks (and new springs?)
Sort some dodgy electrics
(gearbox?)
That will allow me to get it MOT'd.
After that;
Interior
Engine... I want 100BHP. Tempted to turbo/supercharge the 998 due to the current cost of 1275s!
A very sad pic of how she sits today;
