Quote below by Michael Brandon is from a recent interview about the 1980's TV Series 'Dempsey & Makepeace' the odd-couple cop show in which he met his wife Glynis Barber.
"During filming we survived deadly scrapes even more dramatic than the action seen by fans. In one scene, we chased a villain into a car pound (scrap yard) only for him to start crushing us in Glynis's Mini. The director was meant to yell 'Cut!' the moment the crusher touched the car roof. It hits the roof - but it doesn't stop! Michael recalls. There's all these creaking, crashing sounds. The windshield cracks and pops out and Glynis and I are on the floor of this thing and there's nowhere to go. The ceiling's coming down. And I think to myself, We're gonna die, this is it! Finally it stops! The ceiling was level with the doorframe. They had to pry the doors open to get us out."
Dempsey And Makepeace S01E02 - The Squeeze:-
"Dempsey and Makepeace is the pairing of two police detectives: an elegant British noblewoman, Sgt (Lady) Harriet Makepeace, and a streetwise working-class New Yorker, Lt James Dempsey, both working for an elite and armed unit of the London Metropolitan Police."
(However according to DVLA records, KBH 484V the 1979 Black Mini was taxed until Dec 1992. Probably because the Black Mini being squashed is actually an older Mk 3 without reversing lights!)
