Long shot here guys, having a real problem at the moment with finding paint for my car.  The car is officially Yukon Grey (GR-7, or GR-07) but every supplier we try seems to provide a sample that is a completely different colour, there's not even a consistancy between the samples.

Car was painted 5 years ago, and only saw the road 2.5 years ago, so fading isn't the issue.  To much blue in the samples, or too much green in my car seem to be the issue.

The biggest problem is that original Yukon Grey was a 60s colour, but Rover re-used the name for a different shade in the 90s (LQS BLVC1240), the latter is much darker and greener. Nine times out ten when you asak for a sample you get the 90s shade back.

So my question is if anyone has a mixing recipe for the original 60s hue, GR-7 or GR-07?

Thanks in advance.

It may be worth asking a Morris Minor or Austin A40 specialist for help, as, for instance, ESM refer to Yukon grey as ICI ref. 5005 - if that means anything to you?

Thanks. I’ve already got an ESM touch up on order, hasn’t arrived yet. Got my fingers crossed. The ICI reference is interesting though, will see what the painters make of that. Problem is likely that my current hue isn’t quite right to start.

Best thing is to get it scanned, any bodyshop with paint mixing can do it, takes three photos of the panel and finds the nearest 3 codes.

From experience, from what a bodyshop says they’ve painted it to what they have is a pinch of salt, and that’s the only true way to get it matched.

I was fortunate to work with the onsite bodyshop in my last job so used the scanner loads of times getting matches, on a spray out they’re were a fantastic match to be honest.

Thanks. We’ve had it scanned by two paint suppliers and the samples that have turned up are nothing like the car, too much blue. This was our first port of call, and  it really is getting frustrating now.

Go to an automotive paint supplier and get them to match it by eye. It's the only way it's going to match.

I lost the paint code/ colour for my brg mini. I left the boot lid with a paint supply shop who could still supply cellulose to have the paint scanned and colour matched. The match was rubbish, the green had way too much blue in it.
Years later I sent an offcut sample of a panel I was replacing to Brighton Auto Paints, 5 litres of cellulose was posted to me and the colour match was spot on. Very happy with the quality of their service and paint.

I tried Brighton autopaints last weekend, albeit without the scan. Their GR-7 comes out as the 90s shade. Next time I’m down that way i’ll take something to scan
