Whilst driving along today in my Mini something fell off (from a brief glimpse looked to be an exhaust clamp) under the car and proceeded to bounce into the ditch behind me. I obviously stopped pretty sharpish walked back up the road but could not find what had fallen off, had a visual check under the bonnet and under the car- exhaust clamp was my first thought however all were present. Fortunately I was not far from home took it slow and the car seemed to behave perfectly fine, no unusual knocks or vibrations or sounds. Fortunately nobody was following when this happened and I will give the car a through check over before using the car again however I am currently clueless as to what it was. Is there anything prone to falling off that I should check???

I’ve done an inventory check on return to the garage, all tools seen to be there. It’s always a worry though - that spanner which falls between the subframe and bulkhead!!

Bear in mind that it may have fallen off some other vehicle and been flicked up by a tyre as you passed over it.

Obviously, you should thoroughly check your Mini but, if you don't find anything missing, this might be the explanation for what you heard and saw.
