I just got back from having my 1964 Cooper 'S' rally car on a rolling road for the first time in ages and after I did a bit of routine work on the engine (new points and rotor arm, head off and cleaned out with valves re-lapped, etc.
A base line run was done and it was giving 92 bhp at 6000. After re-setting everything it finally gave 105.5 bhp at 6000 and 97 ft.lbs torque at 5200. The torque is above 90 ft,lbs all the way from 3450 to 6050, which is an excellent spread for a 286 cam with 1.5 rockers.
The whole session took 90 minutes.
For those interested, the company is Brunswick Automotive at Witchford, near Ely in Cambs. Their number is 01353 668840 and Wayne is the guy to speak to. Both Wayne and his father (who used to be Pete Baldwin's apprentice) are very capable and know their stuff.
They also did my 1990 Cooper Historic road-rally Cooper recently and with an MG Metro cam and slightly better head, etc, it gave 82 bhp at 5800. It's very driveable on the road as well with a 3.44:1 fdr and standard gearbox.
