I have a 1250 a series engine that I am about to put on my engine stand with adapter plate is the four fixings capable of carrying the engine gearbox and head combined or is it advisable to take off the gearbox first

mines been up on the stand on that same type of plate for the last 3 years, engine and box, hasn't fallen off yet :)
