Friend of mine recently rebuilt his 1275 A+ and had it bored +.060". The pistons are Swiftune shallow dish with the offset dish. As noted the carb is an HIF6. The header is a long center branch of unknown origin.
The question is, is the HIF 6 carb too big for his engine?
The reason for the question is that with the K&N filter removed the engine runs extremely lean and is down on power. With the air filter on it runs rich but has plenty of power.

HIF6 is a great size for a 1275
It sounds like it needs a good tune up

And possibly the correct needle.
That engine would run on a hs4 ,just. A hs6 or hif44 puts the sweet spot in the middle of the carbies range rather than at is upper edge as it would be with a hs4.

Most likely a poor filter.
pictures of the whole set up will help.
personally I would use a HIF44 but the 6 is so similar it should not matter.
