Hi All,

I have a 1973 MK3 and have mislaid my keys - quickest route seemed to be to replace the barrels.

Both doors done in a couple of minutes each but the boot handle is more of an enigma.

I have managed to split the parts successfully but it looks like something has disintegrated in the process - I have the large "spring" washer to hold the parts together and a collection of corroded dust which looks a bit like a couple of wavy washers.

Does anyone know where I can obtain something suitable to replace so that there is some tension on the handle as assembling without this missing piece/parts means the handle is very loose.

Any help welcome.

Thanks

B

Could you find or cut something in plastic, preferably of an engineering quality? The mechanism itself is fairly generic, so you might find something intended for a boat, garage door, office cabinet...

An old topic with some nice piccies

If you roughly know the size search for wavy washers on eBay there are shed loads.

Thanks for the responses.

For now I have reassembled with an elastic band to provide some springiness.

I will seek out some washes on ebay, and will probably have 97 to spare if anyone needs some!
