Morning mini SMEs,

Hope all and faMs well.

Has anyone fitted a Hel Performance flexible braided front subby kit?

I been having issues trying to fit. Specifically the driver side banjo joint. I keep getting fluid leaking at the banjo. I’ve fitted and refitted all front brake components 11 times. It’s like the copper washers don’t seal. It’s like the banjo bolt doesn’t go fully in to the end of the braided brake hose. I started with the generic braided hoses off EBay, the Hel performance braided hoses and had same issue.

I was reading the MED engineering website and they sell Goodridge hoses. It states that the drivers side is different to the passenger side. So I purchased these. The drivers side hose was denoted with a shrink wrap label. I fitted these with the washer, anti- rattle washer, nut, copper washers, banjo joint, copper washer, then banjo bolt. It is like the banjo bolt doesn’t seat properly in the hose, so the copper crush washers are not crushed, so an air tight seal is not creating a tight seal.

When I press the brake pedal the fluid squirts out.

Could anyone kindly advise?

I think I will need to go back to hard lines.

Can anyone recommend where I can get hard lines for the front. I’m looking for the line from the proportional valve to the banjo fitting and the front line from banjo fitting to passenger side hose hole ? Or can someone advise on correct lengths to have these made up. If I am unable to resolve issue with the Hel Performance subby kit.

Any help much appreciated as this is ripping my knitting!

Have a good day!

Many Thanks

I couldn’t see any difference in hoses. Is the hose retaining half nut the same width (thickness) on drivers side from passenger side?

Many thanks

The difference in the front brake hoses is usually the depth of the female thread. the difference is probably less than 1mm. The factory setup never had a plain washer, maybe you need to remove that?

As above, the banjo bolt should have a shoulder to locate the washer.Steve..

definitely check this as well as the washers, mine are handed as well but it wasn't obvious, I just happened to read where someone else pointed it out.  Then I realised when looking closer I have one with OSF written on and one with nothing written on (Goodrich) .   dry fitting the banjo bolt confirmed a slight difference

The hoses are handed. And the washers need to be correct and in the correct place.

Are you also using the banjo bolt for the hydraulic brake light switch?

I deleted that banjo bolt for the brake light switch as the banjo was not thick enough to keep that, and then converted to electric brake pedal switch for the brake lights.

Pic of right side, I can take one on the left if needed.

Annealing the copper washers will help get them cherry red then allow them to cool naturally

that would only work if it does up tight enough to actually squish them slightly, if the issue is the hose being on the wrong side you won't get the bolt in far enough enough to achieve that

And the fitting on the other side may not bottom out to seal on the flare.
