A headscratcher - on having trouble getting the slave cylinder back down onto the rod, investigation led to the master cylinder where the fluid was found to be completely solid, I'm talking concrete-like. You can't even chip it. Does anyone know what could have caused this, and if by any small miracle this is solvable except for a full clutch system replacement?!
Key points include
Clutch was working no issues when the engine was pulled about 3 years ago now
The clutch pedal does depress but bogs on return, will stay 'up' though
The hose between slave and master is still flexible and not concrete like
The slave does not move an inch down the actuating rod, I can only conclude it too is filled with the concrete substance
The concrete is dark grey
It currently comes up about halfway between the max line and the bottom of the cylinder (which makes me think it isn't just detritus)

Video is available but not sure how best to share it

I can't find references to this happening to anyone else in any context. I seem to have had the toughest going on this rebuild and this is just my luck, starting to think she's cursed. Any slivers of hope greatly appreciated!

No idea if it is a fact but I have heard mixing 'standard' glycol-based brake hydraulic fluids (like DOT 3 or DOT 4) with a silicone based brake fluid (like DOT 5) which is not recommended, can cause the fluids to form a gel?
