Hi..I have a 97 MPi and it has started to run rough and also the fan seems to run again almost all the time and it backfires sort off.
I've seen the PSCAN reader that you can buy to plug in the ECU.
Has anyone used this kit ? Do they work will I be able to work out the issue by buying one ?
Any advice or tips appreciated
Jon

They can be diagnosed the same way a carburetted mini can. No need to read the ECU. There may be some situations where it is required but in most cases it doesn't help at all.

There is a lower cost options that may give you insight for the price of a cable.

I have succesfully used James Portman's RoverMEMS on an Andriod pad to find an intermittent fault on my intake temp sensor. It is worth noting that only easier vesrions work on my older pad, upto v49.0.  This and other vesrions are available on Aptode repository.

There is also a Windows vesrions of the app which I have also used using the same USB cable.
