Hi, my original wing mounted telescopic aerial has gone all loose and floppy, so time to replace it.

 

I want to keep the same original style, but also want to add DAB capability as Ive got a replacement JVC head unit too.

 

Ive seen that I can add a "DAB Splitter" to the original type aerial, but searching around there are both 12v powered and non-powered versions with about £20 difference in price.

 

Which splitter should I get?  Does powered make that much difference?

 

Also should I just replace the telescopis aerial with a like for like one from minispares, or is there something a bit more "special"...    I quite like it being retractable to be honest.

When I had replaced my aerial I got a black one from huddersfield spares. Not sure if they still sell it. Anything more special like a electrical retractable one would fail because of the space constraints.

For when I will have to replace my head unit I also want one with DAB, so I ask the technical support of Blaupunkt (still very good support - even I don't understand who owns which part of that company nowadays). 

The recommended a slitter, I looked it up a few moments ago, and it's a active one.

As my project is on hold until the current radio stops working totally, I sadly can't tell You if the active / power part make a difference...

I have a DAB radio fiitted to my MPI with a roof mounted aeriala and acrive splitter.i have tried both a splitter powered from the radio and one powered from 12v exrenal source. While the radio powered splitter is easier to install the exrenally powered splitter has better RF perfomance.

 

This is, of course, based on a sample of one each.

Thanks, I guess it doesnt hurt to have a powered one, its only one more wire.  I'll go for that and see how it goes.
