Mpi Stalling

My MPI started constantly stalling on the drive home from work today, had to keep starting whilst driving as the revs kept dropping. From a quick read it can either be the Cat or possibly the idle air control valve which either needs a clean or replacing?
Its pouring here now so i dont fancy taking a look just yet (car is daily driven and lives on the drive).
It might be unrelated ans obviously its summer but the electric fan has been coming on more often these days it seems. Might judt be the warmed weather but i feel like in prrvious summers its only really when i get into traffic and its very warm, noe usually when i get home its on. Checked coolant and oil levels and all fine.
Any advice? What would you do first? Thanks.
Oh I also need to check for damange as a random branch in the middle of the road got lodged up inside it the other day. I removed it and couldn't see any damage from a quick look but not sure as its not been on a ramp to properly check.

I'm guessing you used the google AI result. Always ignore that.
Start with a visual inspection especially for vacuum leaks.

I looked back on this forum for MPI stalling issues and found similar but I guess not exactly the same where people said either the cat or IACV. Both parts looks fairly inexpensive on Mini spares (and others) but as it's a daily I need to get it diagnosed asap ideally! haha
I'm going to have a look today as the weather has cleared up a bit in between work.

If the two faults have a common source it could be the connector on the temperature sender unit , a known common fault. If the ecu thinks the engine is cold it will richen the mixture and could flood it and if its not getting a signal it could run the fan as a precaution. Remove a spark plug and check if its too rich. The IAVC does get dirty and is worth removing for cleaning. Be careful when refitting it not to over tighten it and crack it.
