Engine is out of the car on the stand with gearbox in place. I installed Minispares cross pin differential with the preload set to zero.

I installed the pot joint that is on the fan side with no problems. The pot joint on the flywheel side of the diff went on very hard. Once in place I couldn't turn it. I removed it and the shaft spins free. I then removed the circlip to make installing the pot easier. When it gets to about 90% of the way home I can no longer turn the pot. The pot on the fan side turns with an appropriate (I think) amount of resistance.

So, what did I do wrong?

Your help is always appreciated.

Are they new pot joints? I had what sounds like the same problem, which is that the pot joint diameter that runs on the pot joint cover bush is now ground to a larger dimension, the only way to solve this is to machine or grind the pot joint to suit the pot joint cover or machine the pot joint cover to suit the pot joint.

They are new pot joints. I guess some disassembly may be happening soon. I thought I checked that. But my memory just ain't what it once was.

Did you squeeze grease into the bearings by hand?
